Denver Colfax Marathon Welcomes New Title Sponsor Cigna to 2022 Race

The marathon also partners with 4 new sponsors for its race weekend

Denver, CO – The Denver Colfax Marathon has a new title sponsor and a new look. Cigna, a global health service company, has partnered with marathon for the 2022 race season. This partnership has already taken one of Colorado’s largest race weekends to the next level.

“At Cigna, we are focused on whole person health and recognize the benefits of physical activity and social connection on people’s physical health and mental well-being,” said John Roble, President of Cigna Mountain States. “Our title sponsorship of the Denver Colfax Marathon is a great opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle and support the Denver community.”

As part of its sponsorship, Cigna funded a special incentive to encourage early registration last November. For every runner that registered in that time frame, they donated $25 to the overall non-profit fundraising pool. That pool is distributed to local charities after the race.

The Denver Colfax Marathon has one of the largest Charity Partner Programs in the country, with over 200 non-profits using the marathon to raise funds and awareness each year. Cigna’s donation will benefit all the charity partners, including Girls on the Run, who will now be able to send 2,400 local girls to participate in this year’s race.

“We are extremely excited about forming a partnership with Cigna that will enable us to take our running event to new heights in Colorado and the U.S.,” said Marathon CEO, Andrea Dowdy.

Cigna will also be the title sponsor of the health and fitness expo at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium, which attracts over 40,000 attendees on Friday and Saturday of race weekend.

Walker & Dunlop joined the marathon’s sponsor line-up, as a sponsor for the marathon’s Charity Partners Program. This commitment to the charity programs will allow for the Denver Colfax Marathon to expand their efforts of working with charities across Colorado.

The marathon also welcomes McDonald Mazda as the exclusive automotive sponsor. McDonald Mazda will provide lead vehicles for the marathon and half marathon races, along with some fun runner engagement activities throughout race weekend.

CU Denver is now the Denver Colfax Marathon’s higher education partner. The marathon is excited to work with CU Denver for the next three years on education related initiatives. This partnership will allow runners to receive free, on-course and finish-line photos. CU Denver will be engaging with runners at the expo, the finish line and throughout the upcoming race season.

The Denver Colfax Marathon relies heavily on local volunteers to make the race a reality each year.  This year, the marathon welcomes Orchard, a real estate brokerage firm, as the official volunteer sponsor.

The 16th Denver Colfax Marathon race weekend will take place Friday May 13th to Sunday May 15th, returning to its traditional May date in 2022. The race was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, and it was delayed to October in 2021. On average, 20,000 people participate in this race weekend every year. The 2022 Denver Colfax Marathon weekend will include a marathon, half marathon, 10 miler, 5K and the nation’s largest marathon relay with corporate, government and open divisions. Registration for all races is open now at www.runcolfax.org.
