Bad ass moms relay team trains for Colfax

‘Badass Moms’ Relay Team Trains For Colfax Marathon

DENVER (CBS4)– This year will mark the eleventh running of the Colfax Marathon in which more than 16,000 runners will take part in five different races. Those include the marathon relay, which consists of five runners over the marathon course of 26.2 miles.

This year’s relay entrants include a team nicknamed the Badass Moms.

“Because we are bad ass,” according to Megan Campbell. “We all have two kids and have careers and husbands and full, busy lives.”

“We have tons of energy and camaraderie,” says Miki Tynan. “We have fun but maintain our mom-hood at the same time.”

The captain and creator of the team is Kerry Crandell, a mother of two boys.

“So I saw (the Colfax Marathon) was on my birthday and I thought what a great way to celebrate and do a relay,” Crandell says. “So I got some badass moms together.”

Tara Duncan is the fourth mom from Stapleton in the group, and the fifth mom is flying in from Kentucky.

These moms don’t do all of their training runs together but prefer to when they can, even if it’s just a quick run around their Stapleton neighborhood for a little break from their little ones.

“Nobody needs anything from you when you are out running and the kids can’t interrupt us and we aren’t bothered by what we have to do at home,” says Campbell.

The training run talk ranges from everything from silly to serious.

“We can be real with each other for what it is to be a mom and wife and a friend,” says Tynan. “We support each other through all the ups and downs because it is not always easy for sure.”

The 2016 Colfax Marathon is Sunday, May 15.
