Gatorade Endurance Formula on the Course
Gatorade Endurance Formula on the course for the half marathon and the full marathon at every hydration station: what it is and why you use it!
It is designed to hydrate athletes engaged in prolonged racing (or training) when fluid, electrolyte and carbohydrate losses can be significant. In addition to sodium and potassium, Endurance Formula contains small amounts of magnesium, chloride and calcium. Working together, these five electrolytes regulate fluid balance. As you lose more and more of these critical electrolytes in sweat, your risk of experiencing fatigue, dizziness, or nausea greatly increases.
If, however, carbohydrate loss is your concern, the carbohydrate amount in Endurance Formula only gives you a small percentage (~14g per cup) of the carbohydrate needed per hour (30g-90g), depending on activity level. If you did drink enough Endurance Formula to reach the 30g-90g per hour, your stomach would be very upset because of all the sodium/sugar.
We would highly recommend that each athlete bring an alternative carbohydrate source with them for during the race (i.e. Chews/Gels) to supplement their hydration.
