Healing is possible today.
Karis Community is a therapeutic community which offers a residential living program for men and women who are recovering from serious and persistent mental illness, and are in transition to independent living.
Research conducted by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shows a strong relationship between poor mental health, chronic disease, lack of access to health care and overall low quality of life. Since 1976, Karis has taken an innovative approach to addressing mental health. Karis utilizes the Empowerment Program to provide a cost-effective, personalized alternative to hospitalization—a residential therapeutic community. Karis is the only such community in the state, and one of few nation-wide. The result has been an exceptionally high number of residents who go on to achieve long-term independence and an improved quality of life.
