Healing is possible today.
Karis Community uses a community-oriented, peer-led approach that enables adults (21+) recovering from serious and persistent mental illness to restore basic life skills, improve relationships and social well-being, and transition to independent living. Karis is the least restrictive environment for mental health programming. Since 1976, Karis has occupied a critical place within the broader continuum of treatment providers in Colorado, offering residential care to individuals who may not be appropriate for in-patient treatment but are not yet ready to live independently. Karis is the only therapeutic community of its kind in the region and one of only a few nationwide. We serve over 100 individuals each year, including Community Members and the Alumni Group. Nearly all our residents arrive with significant trauma histories, and many experience co-occurring substance use disorders. Recovery goals typically include reducing symptoms, learning coping strategies, developing life skills, and restoring the capacity to engage in healthy relationships with others. The result has been an exceptionally high number of residents who achieve long-term independence and improved quality of life.
