Top running app recommendations for your smart phones. Get these apps and get going!
MapMyRun (iMapMy)
FREE
This app will map out a course for your run and will keep track of your pace, speed, distance and overall time of your workout. Once your run is completed you can look back at your course, and post it to either facebook or twitter and compare (or brag) with your friends about how far you ran that day. Next you can look at how many calories you burned in comparison to how many you took in. This will help you budget how much to eat through out the day in order to obtain your goal weight.
EndoMondo
FREE
Similar to Map My Run, Endomondo tracks pace, speed, distance and duration. You have the ability to enter your own workout or set a goal. Setting a goal includes choosing your distance, time or calories that you want to burn. It also allows you to find a route to follow, or to look at what routes your friends have done and compete against their times. The interface on this app is very easy to use and is visually appealing.
Electric Miles
FREE
Electric Mile is great for sharing running tips with friends by connecting this app to your facebook. It provides a friends list of people that have the app, and allows you to share ideas, pictures and your workouts with them. On the workout page, you can enter your own title for your run, which is great especially if you have a nickname for your secret path. It will track the distance of the run and the time it took to complete it. You can even add how you felt during the run, rating it from Great to Injured. It also lets you choose the type of workout you are doing, which is a great way to change up your usual routine.
Log Your Run
$3.99
Log Your Run is a really great app. It's easy to use and the GPS is very accurate. Right when you sign in, the GPS tracks you and it gives you the option to start your run from your current location. It will then track your distance, pace and even your heart rate. You can save popular routes that you like to run or you can search routes already created by the app if you are looking for a new place to try out. This app is great for training because it will give you a training regimen if you link it to their online website. Very useful!
Calorie Counter and Fitness Tracker by My Fitness Pal
FREE
While this app isn't a training device for running new routes, it is very useful in other ways; specifically counting calories and weight loss progression. Similar to other apps you can link it to your social media and compare your progress with other people on your news feed. It personalizes your "Dairy" page with your daily intake and then spits out your daily calorie intake and what your goal calorie intake is. It is very helpful that you can track your progress on this app, by viewing a chart that contains your weight and references it to the date. Great for keeping you on track with your weight loss goals!
