Fighting on Every Front to Improve Living with ALS
Our Chapter was founded in 1991 when a group of ALS patients, families and friends formed an organization to provide support to people in Colorado and Wyoming afflicted with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). We have a variety of services available to help improve the quality of life for those living with ALS and their families. All services are free of charge and include: a medical equipment loan program, the Doris Lackner Respite Care Fund, support groups, educational information, referrals and one-on-one support.

Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado
The Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado offers education, counseling and support at no cost to the 72,000 families in our state living with Alzheimer’s, and funds research to find a cure to the disease. Go the distance with ALZ Stars by registering for the Colfax Marathon. Members of ALZ Stars raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s while competing in marathons and ½ marathons. AMC Cancer Fund
Benefiting The University of Colorado Cancer Center
AMC Cancer Fund raises money and awareness for the University of Colorado Cancer Center’s cancer prevention, care, education and research programs. The CU Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Rocky Mountain Region. Patients diagnosed and treated at CU Cancer Center have higher 5-year survival rates for many cancer types compared with state-wide and national averages. AMC sees a world where we celebrate survival as we move forward with new research and technology, where the cancers prevented outnumber the new diagnoses. America SCORES Denver provides over 320 Denver youth with soccer, creative writing and service learning opportunities each year. Through their participation in SCORES, Denver's poet-athletes learn to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and become agents of change in their communities. SCORES combines team sports – increased physical activity, self-esteem, pride, teamwork and good sportsmanship – with an onsite academic program that builds critical literacy skills. Art from Ashes partners with organizations to provide poetry and creative arts workshops for youth who are in residential treatment, urban environments, homeless, incarcerated, or court-involved. We guide young people in need of hope and a self-determined future to understand and recognize their own value and purpose. Art from Ashes combines expression, the articulation of painful events or circumstances in their young lives; connection, the ability to release the pain and fear of those experiences among peers and mentors; and transformation, using the power of strong, healthy words to encourage an identity that is not based in victimization.

Aurora Youth Options
Navigate, connect and provide positive individualized resources to help middle and high school aged youth and their families thrive
Aurora Youth Options brings youth at risk together with 300 existing community programs and activities via a process that identifies the agencies or programs that can best serve the youths’ needs. The process begins with “gatekeepers” in the schools and community who observe problem behavior and offer the youth information and referral to an AYO youth specialist who meet with youth and their families and assess the youth’s needs using a specialized survey that rates risk and protective factors. Youth are then connected with an appropriate community organization or activity to help the individual thrive.

Place. Since its inception, Brent's Place has remained the only hospital
approved "Safe-Clean" housing facility for immune compromised patients and
their families, providing a living environment that is essential to healing
and recovery. Conveniently located near the Anschutz Medical Campus, Brent's
Place is designed to offer families "Safe-Clean" individualized housing in
an environment virtually free from dander, dust, mold and other infectious
agents. Brent's Place, a program and facility created by the Brent Eley
Foundation, bridges the gap between the hospital and going home.

Cancer League of Colorado was formed in 1969 to raise money for cancer research and related patient care and family programs in Colorado. Cancer League is comprised entirely of volunteers, currently numbering more than 400, with no paid staff and no offices. All money raised goes to cancer research and service programs in Colorado. The research funded by Cancer League allows researchers to do the initial testing required to qualify for major grants from the National Cancer Institute and other large grantors which have averaged more than 20 times the amount of the original Cancer League grant, establishing Cancer League as a major asset to the cancer centers and research facilities in Colorado

Promoting awareness of Congenital Heart Defects in children
The Cardiac Kids Chapter of Children's Hospital Colorado is comprised entirely of volunteers. Cardiac Kids helps support The Heart Institute of Children's Hospital Colorado as well as children and families affected by Congenital Heart Defects. Our mission is to educate the public regarding heart disease and heart transplants among children. Approximately 1 in 125 babies are born with a heart defect which makes it the #1 birth defect. Some of our accomplishments include providing annual school senior scholarships to those who have been heart patients, a resource guide given to parents of new patients, a parent conference and cardiac family events and gatherings. Colorado Canine Rescue
There's no place like home.
Colorado Canine Rescue, CCR, was incorporated in 2008 and received its 501c3 tax exempt status in January 2009. We are a small group run entirely by volunteers. Our mission is to rescue dogs from shelters that have been overlooked and have run out of time. We place these dogs in our foster homes and provide any necessary medical or behavioral care. Our goal is to find an adoptive family whose needs and lifestyle perfectly match those of our dog's so that it is a permanent, loving home.

Colorado Vincentian Volunteers
Companions on the Journey
The Colorado Vincentian Volunteers a community of faith and action. Twenty men and women, ages 22-30 are recruited annually to accompany the poor, live in community, grow spiritually, and develop a deeper understanding of Social Justice and Change. CVV volunteers serve homeless youth and adults, children in inner- city schools, the medically indigent, low income seniors, economically disadvantaged women and families who are in need of emergency assistance. In the past 13 years, 152 volunteers have completed the annual program, and 45 local non-profit agencies have been provided over 280,000 hours of volunteer service through CVV.

Solving America's Dropout Crisis
CYC believes that all youth have the right to receive an education. On a daily basis, we reach out to youth who have dropped out or are on the verge of dropping out of school and provide them with support to overcome barriers that may discourage them in continuing to pursue their high school diploma. Denver Health Paramedics
In Denver, when you dial 911, you're calling the Denver Health Paramedics. The distinctive orange and blue ambulances respond to automobile accidents, alcohol intoxication, psychiatric emergencies, falls and chest pain. They transport hundreds of patients each year with penetrating trauma (gunshots or stab wounds) and blunt trauma injuries (car crashes, and ski accidents). They respond to 80,000 calls annually for emergency medical assistance. Denver Health Paramedics Charity Partner runners are raising funds to purchase car seats for thousands of low-income babies born each year at Denver Health Medical Center.

Family HomeStead
Sometimes homelessness is a family affair.
exists to “…house homeless families and end homelessness for individual families in our program in the Metro Denver Area….” Children comprise 63 percent of our client population. Providing both emergency and transitional housing, we believe that families with children don’t belong in shelters. Institutional living disempowers parents and disrupts the pattern of normal daily life. Family HomeStead houses families in individual apartments, providing a safe home base for children while their parents work one-on-one with our case managers to develop a plan that helps them take control of their lives, find permanent housing, and develop a sustainable income.

Since 1976, Family Tree has provided a broad range of services and shelter to families and youth of metro Denver to overcome child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness. Last year, Family Tree provided services to more than 32,000 people, including more than 23,000 nights of safe shelter to families and individuals who might otherwise be homeless. The mission of Family Tree is to help people overcome child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness to become safe, strong and self-reliant.

Fetal Hope Foundation
Leading the Way to Hope
We invite you to join our charity team as part of the 2011 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon. Fetal Hope Foundation was started by two runners whose identical twin girls were saved during pregnancy when all hope seemed lost. Thanks to in-utero surgery, their daughters were saved. Food Bank of the Rockies distributed over 26 million pounds of food last year through 1,100 hunger-relief programs in Northern Colorado, including Metro Denver and the entire state of Wyoming. Freedom Service Dogs enhances the lives of people with disabilities by rescuing dogs and custom training them for individual client needs. Integrating dogs into the treatment of conditions such as muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, autism, and PTSD has been shown to be physiologically and emotionally beneficial to people – empowering them with a new found sense of independence for daily tasks like using the restroom, getting in and out of bed, and through a variety of public interactions. Freedom Service Dogs has been featured nationally in 2010 on CBS Evening News and CNN. Girls on the Run
Educating and preparing girls for a lifetime of healthy living and self-respect
Girls on the Run of the Rockies (GOTR) is a non-profit organization that offers a unique after school program for girls in 3rd – 8th grade. We educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Our 10-week program combines training for a 5K run with lessons that inspire girls to celebrate their strengths and inner selves. Each year, GOTR serves more than 1,000 girls in the Denver area. Forty percent of our girls are low-income, at-risk youth. GOTR provide the program to these students and schools at no cost, through grants and fundraising.

Focusing on young women diagnosed with breast cancer
The Hope for Heather Foundation was established in 2010 committed to helping young women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Heather Taylor was just 25 when she was diagnosed with stage 3b, HER2 positive, breast cancer. As family, friends, and Heather embarked on the cancer journey, we started learning about all the organizations devoted to helping women. Some were committed to research, for others it was awareness and prevention, but we couldn’t find an organization to help with the everyday costs of living with, fighting, and surviving. It became clear that we could use her experience to help other women.

Training rescued ears to hear free of charge
International Hearing Dog, Inc. creates a new “leash” on life by rescuing dogs from local animal shelters and training them to become Hearing Dogs. Each dog is selected from a Denver area shelter, trained in sound response, general socialization and obedience then placed with a hearing impaired recipient in the United States or Canada free of charge. Judi’s House was founded by Brian Griese in honor and in memory of his mother who died when he was twelve years old. Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance
Since 2000, Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance (RMCA), formerly known as Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers Foundation (RMCCF), has provided non-medical financial assistance to low-income adult cancer patients receiving treatment in Colorado. More than 4,000 cancer patients have benefited from over $2.5 million that helped pay for basic needs -- shelter, food, transportation, and more. While assistance from RMCA doesn't alleviate the financial crisis that so often accompanies cancer treatment, our support does bring a bit of relief from the financial stress. Support from RMCA helps cancer survivors avoid the gut-wrenching decision to delay or end treatment because of the financial burden.

ShelterBox USA
ShelterBox is the premier international aid organization that provides shelter and life-saving equipment to survivors of natural and other disasters. The organizations instantly respond to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict and have helped over 140 disasters in more than 70 countries. Each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless. Each box bears its own unique number so donors can track their box all the way to its recipient country. Highly trained ShelterBox Response Teams distribute boxes on the ground, working closely with local organizations, international aid agencies and Rotary clubs worldwide.

StandUp for Kids
The mission of StandUp For Kids is to help homeless and street kids. We do this, every day, in cities across America. We carry out our mission through our volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives. Our focus goes beyond street outreach and extends to deterrence and resource programs that we provide in schools and via the internet. But all facets of our mission are guided by the mandate that our volunteers shall tell kids they care about them and then, at every point, prove it. Where learning is always in season!
Summer Scholars’ mission is to narrow the educational achievement gap by providing comprehensive after-school and summer learning programs to help students increase their academic achievement and develop stronger developmental assets, then translate these gains into ongoing success in school. For nearly 20 years, Summer Scholars has provided a safe environment for out-of-school-time learning for thousands of at-risk elementary students. The Bridge Project
Did you know that Colorado ranks 49th in public education funding and has the fifth highest dropout rate in the nation? Against all odds, Bridge Project participants are thriving – increasing their reading scores, graduating from high school and pursuing higher education. The mission of the Bridge Project is to provide educational opportunities for children living in Denver’s public housing neighborhoods so they graduate from high school and attend college or learn a trade. For two decades, the Bridge Project has provided academic, social and emotional outreach for children and families in some of Denver’s toughest neighborhoods. The Gathering Place
A Refuge for Rebuilding Lives
The Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime, drop-in center for women, children, and transgender individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty. The organization exists to provide a safe daytime refuge and resources for self-sufficiency for those who seek its services. In 2010, The Gathering Place welcomed over 12,000 different individuals who were able to eat meals served by the kitchen; obtain free food, clothes, and toiletry items from our cupboard and boutique; use the on-site telephones, computer lab, and laundry facilities; and participate in a number of personal growth and learning programs.

The Legal Center is an independent public interest non-profit specializing in civil rights and discrimination issues (specializing in housing, public accommodations, education and employment) through direct legal representation, advocacy, education and legislative analysis. We protect the human, civil and legal rights of people with mental and physical disabilities, people with HIV, and older people throughout Colorado. The Salvation Army

For 125 years, The Salvation Army in Denver has provided food, shelter, and hope to those in need. In 2011 alone, 204,325 meals were provided to families and individuals, 41,563 individuals received emergency services, and 19,908 toys were distributed at Christmas. As the economy continues to struggle in the Rockies we, at The Salvation Army, continue to provide much needed services to the community and in order to provide these services, we must look to you for support. Two Angels Foundation
The Two Angels Foundation was formed in 2005 in memory of Allyson and Rachel Mohatt. Allyson and Rachel were sisters that were both diagnosed with Nemaline Myopathy, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy; both girls passed away at the age of five. Our mission is to help children with physical disabilities lead the most active and fun lives possible. We purchases recreational adaptive equipment, such as, tricycles, swings and special walkers that gives these children the opportunities that will allow them to join in and participate in recreational activities with their friends and family.

For more than 20 years, Urban Peak has helped homeless youth and youth at risk of being homeless by providing essential services and a supportive community, empowering them to become self-sufficient adults. Since 1988, Urban Peak has been there for tens of thousands of youth – homeless, vulnerable, without basic needs – who are trying to live as well as possible, even as they lose hope. Urban Peak offers street outreach and drop-in services, safe shelter and meals, transitional housing, education and employment programs, medical care, mental health and substance abuse counseling, creative outlets, and recreational and youth development activities.

Whiz Kids Tutoring
Having fun, helping kids!
Whiz Kids Tutoring is a faith-based, after-school, one-to-one tutoring program for disadvantaged students throughout the Denver Metro area. Whiz Kids has matched 760 trained volunteer tutors with 760 elementary and middle school youth at 41 tutoring sites throughout the Denver Metro area. We work with kids who are most at-risk for failing out of school. We help them improve academically, provide them with the weekly support of a caring adult, and bolster their spirits. Whiz Kids volunteers are running to help promote reading and expand the program to areas where we are most needed.

Denver Area Youth for Christ reaches out to young people, working together with churches and other partners to develop lifelong followers of Christ. We have two ministries; Juvenile Justice works with teens in correctional institutions mentor and teaches a balanced life approach, Campus Life works with teens on and off high schools campuses through weekly meetings which include fun games and lively discussions on issues relevant to teens. Make Change Take Root
YouthRoots teaches high school students how to change the world using the philanthropic process as our experiential classroom. The YouthRoots model walks high school youth through the philanthropic cycle from creating a board structure, to raising funds, to setting priorities, and awarding monies. Throughout this process, the curriculum provided helps them thrive and teaches them the tools to lead effectively. This unique structure allows the teenagers to not only learn tools, but also get experience and practice them “in the field”.
